Two Rookies Tabbed Players of the Week

In their first action as a Retro Strat-O-Matic League member, a pair of rookies took home player of the week honors.

Offensive Player of the Week

Cincinnati running back Mel Farr, a rookie from UCLA, earned Player of the Week honors this week. In the Bengals’ (1-0) 24-3 victory over Richmond, Farr toted the pigskin 20 times for 114 yards and two touchdowns. Farr currently leads the RSF with 114 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Defensive Player of the Week

Rich Volk, a defensive back and rookie from the University of Michigan, earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after leading Liverpool (1-0) to victory over Oorang.

Volk compiled two tackles and intercepted two Indians’ passes for 28 yards in returns.

Special Teams Player of the Week

Rich East Rockets’ star running back and returner Gale Sayers took home week one Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Sayers, a four-year veteran from Kansas, returned three kicks for a 49.4 average per return. His top return was a 99-yard kick return for a touchdown. He also hauled in two fair catches as a punt return man.
